Lombok is one of the top destinations for beach lovers and, unlike its world-famous neighbour Bali, has not yet been overwhelmed by mass tourism. On this Indonesian island, you’ll encounter a variety of dreamlike, spectacular and sometimes almost deserted beaches. Nature reveals itself in its full beauty and often feels like a living painting.
If you enjoy peaceful surroundings, relaxation and untouched landscapes, Lombok’s breathtaking beaches will definitely impress you.
The 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in Lombok
The most beautiful and well-known beaches on Lombok are mainly located along the island’s west coast. The towns of Kuta and Senggigi in particular provide excellent bases for exploring Lombok and its incredible beaches.
Since the island is fairly large, I divided my two-week stay between these two areas. This allowed me to benefit from shorter travel distances to different beaches, which is why I’d recommend splitting your Lombok trip in a similar way.
Below, I’ll introduce you to my 10 favourite beaches in Lombok, places you definitely shouldn’t miss during your visit.

What to Expect in This Travel Guide to Lombok’s Beaches & Attractions:
Lombok’s Beaches Around Kuta
The most beautiful beaches in Lombok are mainly located around Kuta and Senggigi, which is why this travel guide is divided into these two regions.
In my opinion, the majority of Lombok’s most impressive beaches can be found around Kuta. However, Senggigi also offers several fantastic beaches worth visiting.
Below, you’ll discover more about Lombok’s beaches around Kuta. In a later section further down, you’ll find additional information about the best beaches around Senggigi.
1. Kuta Region: Pantai Mawun Beach – The Untouched Dream Bay
Mawun Beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Lombok. Nestled within a picturesque bay surrounded by lush green hills, the beach feels almost enclosed, with only a small opening leading out to the sea. I instantly fell in love with the breathtaking scenery this place offers.
The wide and largely undeveloped beach remains wonderfully natural. Apart from three small beachfront warungs (restaurants) serving local dishes and renting sun loungers, there is hardly any infrastructure, adding to its untouched charm.
Great Swimming Conditions & A Stunning Viewpoint
At Mawun Beach, you’ll find good swimming conditions, thanks to the steeply sloping sandy shoreline. The best area for swimming is in the centre of the bay, while both ends feature reefs with rocky sections.
Still, I’d recommend staying cautious while swimming, as strong currents are common around Lombok, even if they are usually less intense here than at other beaches. The beach is often frequented by curious local children, who may quickly see you as an interesting attraction. Western tourists are still relatively rare, giving Mawun Beach a more authentic atmosphere.
At the western end of the bay, a small and rather unofficial hiking path leads up a hill, rewarding adventurous visitors with a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view. The climb can be challenging, but the view at the top is absolutely worth the effort.

The combination of white sand, turquoise waters and rolling green hills creates a setting of almost unreal beauty. Mawun Beach is a true hidden gem and, without question, one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve encountered during all my travels.

2. Kuta Region: Pantai Lancing Beach – Empty, Peaceful & Untouched
Compared to nearby Bali, Lombok’s beaches are generally far less crowded. However, Lancing Beach stands out even more as a place where you’ll encounter an almost deserted and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Despite Lombok’s growing popularity, Pantai Lancing Beach has remained largely undiscovered, offering an authentic and unspoilt setting, ideal for travellers seeking peace and tranquillity. Listening to the waves, sipping a fresh coconut and reading a good book? Then Lancing Beach could be the perfect place for you.
Along the approximately one-kilometre-long beach, there is only one small warung (restaurant) where you can enjoy snacks and rent sun loungers in the shade for a small fee. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, though also pleasantly curious about foreign visitors.
Apart from this, there is virtually no infrastructure, which is quite surprising considering the beach is easily accessible from the main road, despite feeling hidden away.
Beautiful Scenery, Average Swimming Conditions
The combination of an empty coastline, turquoise waters and pale golden sand creates a truly idyllic tropical atmosphere. However, Lancing Beach is not necessarily one of Lombok’s best beaches for swimming.
Parts of the sand are coarser, and after only a few metres into the water, you’ll encounter an offshore reef. Because of this, the beach is better suited for relaxing, paddling and snorkelling rather than long-distance swimming.
That said, Pantai Lancing is perfect for extended beach walks. The soft sand can make walking surprisingly tiring, almost like a workout, but in a far more spectacular setting than any gym.ch ist und du dadurch etwas absinkst. 3. Kuta Region: Mawi Beach – A Favourite Among Surfers
Lombok’s beaches are known worldwide for their excellent surfing conditions, attracting passionate surfers to the island year after year. Besides the impressive waves, Lombok also offers a spectacular tropical backdrop, making every surf session even more memorable.
Mawi Beach is considered one of the most popular surf spots in Lombok for experienced surfers, with wave riders hitting the water from early morning until sunset.
Mawi Beach for Non-Surfers
Although Mawi Beach is best known for surfing, it’s also well worth visiting if you don’t surf. In fact, the journey itself already feels like part of the experience.
The rough and adventurous access road takes you through beautiful landscapes filled with rice fields, palm trees and grazing cattle, offering a glimpse into Lombok’s rural charm.
At the beach, you’ll find small warungs (restaurants) where you can relax, enjoy a snack or sip on a fresh coconut while watching surfers master the powerful waves.
Swimming Is Possible During High Tide
Even though Mawi Beach isn’t one of Lombok’s best swimming beaches, you can still enjoy a refreshing dip during high tide. Despite the often strong waves and rough sea conditions, some sections near the shore remain suitable for paddling and cooling off.
During low tide, however, the water retreats significantly, exposing the reef and making swimming difficult.
Hidden Path to a Quiet Neighbouring Beach
If the atmosphere at Mawi Beach becomes too lively, follow the small path on the right-hand side of the beach. It leads over a green hill with fantastic views across Mawi Beach and continues to a remote neighbouring beach.
Swimming conditions there aren’t necessarily better, but you’ll often find complete tranquillity surrounded by untouched nature. A perfect place to take a break, enjoy the scenery or simply relax.

4. Kuta Region: Selong Belanak Beach – The Lombok Beach for Every Type of Traveller
Selong Belanak Beach is considered one of the absolute top beaches in Lombok, perhaps even the most beautiful. Similar to Mawun Beach, it is surrounded by impressive green hills, although the bay stretches over a much wider area of around two kilometres.
The breathtaking scenery and lush surroundings make Selong Belanak one of my favourite beaches in Lombok. The atmosphere is also incredibly diverse, bringing together beach lovers, surfers and locals.
White Sand & Perfect Swimming Conditions
At Selong Belanak Beach, you’ll find soft white sand, shallow turquoise waters and excellent swimming conditions. Unlike many other beaches in Lombok, there are no rocks, reefs or corals disturbing the experience.
Although Selong Belanak is one of the most visited beaches near Kuta, there is still plenty of space due to its impressive size. In some areas, you may even find yourself completely alone.
The beach also offers a large selection of sun loungers and restaurants (warungs). One of the best known is Laut Biru, a popular restaurant said to serve some of the best food in southern Lombok.
The Ideal Place to Learn Surfing
Thanks to its gentle waves, Selong Belanak is a favourite spot for beginner surfers. Numerous local surf schools offer lessons and equipment rental, and due to strong competition, prices are often negotiable.
Famous for Water Buffalo Walks
One of Selong Belanak’s most unusual attractions happens around 10 am and again near sunset, when water buffalo are guided across the beach by local farmers. Many photographers visit specifically to capture sunset shots with the buffalo.
A Rising Hotspot in Southern Lombok
The outstanding conditions at Selong Belanak have not gone unnoticed. The area continues to grow in popularity, bringing new hotels, restaurants and surf schools. What was once considered a hidden gem is gradually becoming one of Lombok’s emerging tourism hotspots.

5. Kuta Region: Bang Selong Viewpoint – Stunning Views Over Lombok’s West Coast
Not a beach, but absolutely worth visiting, is the Bang Selong Viewpoint. Despite the name, this isn’t a classic observation deck as you might expect, but rather a small gravel parking area with an extraordinary view. From here, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramas over Lombok’s west coast, including rolling hills, tropical beaches and the deep blue ocean.
The Bang Selong Viewpoint can easily be combined with a visit to Selong Belanak Beach, as it lies only around 10 kilometres away, roughly a 15-minute drive.

Lombok’s Beaches Around Senggigi
Some of Lombok’s most beautiful beaches near Senggigi can be discovered along a spectacular coastal road, offering impressive ocean views and picturesque landscapes along the way.
In the following section, you’ll learn more about Lombok’s best beaches in the north-western part of the island, including hidden bays, relaxed beach spots and scenic coastal highlights.
6. Senggigi Beach – The Main Beach in the Region
Senggigi Beach, located in the village of the same name, is considered one of the main tourist beaches in north-west Lombok. As a result, you benefit from excellent infrastructure, including restaurants, accommodations and a relaxed nightlife scene.
The beach is divided into two sections, North and South Senggigi, separated by a small peninsula. This peninsula features an offshore reef, offering good snorkelling opportunities and attracting surfers and local fishermen alike.
Southern Section – Ideal for Relaxation
The southern part of Senggigi Beach is home to a few hotels and cosy beachfront restaurants, creating a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere with beautiful sea views. You’ll also find Sunshine Restaurant, reportedly the oldest restaurant in Senggigi, located in this area.
Overall, the southern section is quieter and less crowded, making it an excellent place to relax and enjoy uninterrupted beach time.
Northern Section – Perfect for Strolling & Sunset Atmosphere
The northern section of Senggigi Beach feels livelier, with traditional fishing boats, restaurants, shops and watersport providers lining the shore.
Especially around sunset, when the area is bathed in warm golden light, the atmosphere becomes particularly charming. The beachfront restaurants create a great ambience for enjoying dinner or drinks with ocean views.
Just behind the beach, you’ll find the Art Market, offering a variety of local handicrafts, souvenirs and artwork. The harbour of Senggigi is also located in the northern area, where boats depart towards Bali and the nearby Gili Islands.
If you’re looking for the best swimming conditions, head to the northernmost section, where there are fewer fishing boats and calmer water.

7. Pantai Kerandangan – Ideal for Long Beach Walks
Following the coastal road north of Senggigi, Pantai Kerandangan is one of the first beaches you’ll encounter. Stretching for around one kilometre, the beach is divided into Kerandangan Beach 1, 2 and 3.
Although there are a few accommodations and bungalows nearby, the area has largely maintained its natural and untouched atmosphere, surrounded by palm trees and lush greenery.
The dark-coloured sand contrasts beautifully with the deep blue sea, creating a unique appearance compared to many other beaches in Lombok. Kerandangan Beach is particularly popular with locals, which means it becomes busier mainly on weekends. During the week, however, you may have large parts of the beach entirely to yourself.
Western tourists are still relatively rare here, making the atmosphere peaceful and ideal for relaxation.
Average Swimming Conditions, Perfect for Beach Walks
As inviting as the beach may look, Pantai Kerandangan is not ideal for swimming. While the shoreline is shallow, there can be strong currents and waves, and parts of the seabed are rocky and uneven.
If you plan to swim, water shoes are recommended.
What Pantai Kerandangan excels at, however, is long beach walks. Combined with its green surroundings and tranquil atmosphere, the beach also offers great photo opportunities, especially around sunset.

8. Setangi Beach – One of the Most Beautiful Beaches in North-West Lombok
For me, Setangi Beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in north-west Lombok. The beach features almost black sand, which creates a fascinating contrast against the lush green surroundings, palm trees and deep blue ocean.
Along the coastline, you’ll discover plenty of interesting photo opportunities. Since there are very few accommodations nearby, you’ll often have large sections of Setangi Beach entirely to yourself.
Even the access road at the northern end (Setangi 3), passing through palm plantations, creates an authentic tropical atmosphere.
Dynamic Ocean & Perfect Conditions for Long Walks
The sea at Setangi Beach can be quite lively, with waves and stronger currents creating good conditions for experienced swimmers or body surfing. Less experienced swimmers, however, should be cautious, as the natural forces here can be surprisingly strong.
One pleasant advantage is the absence of rocks and stones in the water, making entering the sea more comfortable.
If swimming isn’t your priority, Setangi Beach is an excellent place for long walks. The approximately 1.5-kilometre-long beach offers beautiful panoramic views almost every step of the way, making it easy to forget everyday life for a while.
The colour contrasts at Setangi Beach are particularly unique and visually striking.

9. Nipah Beach – Another Dream Beach in Lombok
Nipah Beach is another hidden highlight in north-west Lombok. Nestled at the foot of a mountain range and lined with palm trees as far as the eye can see, the beach offers pure tropical paradise vibes.
This kilometre-long stretch of coastline features fine, light grey sand combined with turquoise-green waters, creating an absolutely stunning setting.
Apart from a few small warungs (restaurants), the beach remains largely untouched and uncrowded, making it an excellent place to relax and escape the crowds. Traditional fishing boats along the shore also create interesting photo opportunities.
Excellent Conditions for Swimming & Snorkelling
Nipah Beach is ideal for swimming, thanks to its calm waters and very few waves. The sea remains shallow near the shore, making it suitable for paddling and relaxed swimming.
Another advantage is the absence of rocks, corals and sharp stones close to the beach, allowing for an easy entry into the water over soft sand.
If you swim slightly further into the bay, you’ll reach a small intact reef, home to colourful fish and corals, making Nipah Beach a surprisingly good snorkelling spot as well.

10. Pandanan Beach – Authentic Lombok Feeling
Pandanan Beach is one of the most popular beaches in north-west Lombok, set against a beautiful backdrop of green hills and tropical scenery.
You’ll encounter few western tourists here, but instead many local families and children, who often come to enjoy the calm waters and relaxed atmosphere. Along the beach, you’ll find several small warungs (restaurants) serving local dishes at affordable prices.
Locals are usually curious and welcoming towards visitors, so if you enjoy chatting with residents and experiencing local culture, Pandanan Beach is a great place to do so.
Moderate Swimming Conditions & Relaxed Atmosphere
Besides traditional fishing boats, you’ll also find simple beach swings, especially popular with local children. Pandanan Beach offers a very authentic Lombok experience, allowing you to gain a glimpse into daily life and local culture.
The beach provides good swimming conditions in certain sections, with calm waters and a gently sloping shoreline. However, some areas can be rocky, making swimming less ideal.
The sand varies in colour from light grey to almost black, adding another interesting contrast to the scenery.

Accommodation & Hotels in Lombok
As mentioned earlier, it makes sense to split your Lombok stay between the two main regions around Kuta and Senggigi. During my two-week trip to Lombok, I spent one week in Kuta and one week in Senggigi.
This approach allows you to explore Lombok’s beautiful west coast beaches more efficiently, while reducing long travel times and experiencing different sides of the island, from surf spots and quiet bays in the south to scenic beaches and relaxed coastal roads in the north-west.
Kuta Region: Dewi Garden Guesthouse – Affordable Accommodation with a Great Location
For my stay in Kuta, I chose the Dewi Garden Guesthouse, a small accommodation run by an incredibly friendly local family. The bungalow-style rooms are simple but provide everything needed for a comfortable stay.
While Dewi Garden Guesthouse isn’t a luxury resort, it offers an excellent base for exploring Lombok’s beaches in the south-west. Breakfast is included, and you can rent a scooter directly at the guesthouse, making day trips around the island convenient and flexible.
There is also a laundry service available, and the welcoming family even organised my transfer from Kuta to Senggigi at a fair price, which was especially helpful.
The guesthouse is located slightly outside the centre of Kuta, making it pleasantly quiet and relaxed. The town centre can be reached in approximately 15 minutes on foot or 3–4 minutes by scooter, where you’ll find restaurants, cafés and additional infrastructure.
The only minor downside during my stay was the lack of hot water in the shower. However, considering Lombok’s warm tropical climate, this wasn’t much of an issue.
Kuta Region: Jivana Resort – For Higher Comfort & Relaxation
If you’re looking for more comfort and a stylish atmosphere during your stay in Kuta, the Jivana Resort is an excellent choice. The resort combines modern design with tropical surroundings, creating a peaceful environment ideal for relaxing after a day exploring Lombok’s beaches and attractions.
The spacious rooms offer a comfortable retreat, while the well-maintained grounds and pool area provide a relaxing atmosphere away from the busier parts of Kuta.
Despite its tranquil setting, the resort is located close enough to Kuta centre, allowing easy access to restaurants, cafés and additional infrastructure within just a few minutes by scooter.
Due to its location, Jivana Resort also serves as a great base for discovering Lombok’s southern beaches, including Selong Belanak, Mawun Beach and Mawi Beach.
If you prefer higher standards, more comfort and a quieter atmosphere, Jivana Resort is definitely worth considering for your Lombok trip.
Senggigi Region: Jo Je Bungalows – Budget-Friendly Accommodation with a Private Beach
Jo Je Bungalows is a great choice for budget-conscious travellers looking for affordable accommodation in the Senggigi region. The rooms are simple, comfortable and functional, although some areas could benefit from renovation. Nevertheless, I would still recommend staying here.
The hotel features a small swimming pool and even offers access to a private beach. The beach itself is pebbly, which means swimming conditions are not ideal, but it creates a unique and peaceful atmosphere.
Located directly by the shore, you’ll also find a relaxed beachfront bar and restaurant, serving food, drinks and shisha in a charming setting. The cosy atmosphere makes it the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Lombok, while enjoying the sea view and ending the evening in a relaxed way.
Senggigi Region: Merumatta – Newly Renovated in a Stunning Location
The Merumatta Hotel enjoys a perfect location directly on a private section of South Senggigi Beach and features a beautiful tropical garden with a swimming pool. It’s an ideal accommodation if you’re looking to enjoy a few relaxing days by the sea.
The centre of Senggigi, with additional restaurants, cafés and infrastructure, can be reached within approximately 10 minutes on foot, giving you the perfect balance between peaceful surroundings and convenient access.
The rooms are comfortable and functional, while the entire resort has recently been renovated and modernised, creating a fresher and more contemporary atmosphere.
Considering its location, facilities and recent upgrades, Merumatta offers excellent value for money and is a fantastic choice for a stay in the Senggigi region.
Senggigi Region: Sheraton – Luxury Stay with Everything You Need
If you’re looking for a luxurious accommodation in Lombok, I recommend the Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort. The hotel is located directly on the beautiful Senggigi Beach, surrounded by lush tropical gardens that create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Guests can enjoy modern rooms with a private terrace or balcony, offering comfort and plenty of space to unwind after a day exploring Lombok.
The resort also features four high-quality dining options, an inviting outdoor swimming pool, and a spa area designed for relaxation and recovery.
If you prefer to stay active, the hotel additionally offers a tennis court and fitness facilities, ensuring there’s plenty of variety beyond beach days and sightseeing.
With its excellent location, extensive facilities and upscale atmosphere, the Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort is a great choice for travellers seeking comfort and luxury during their Lombok stay.
Getting Around Lombok
Lombok not only offers breathtaking beaches and fascinating landscapes, but also various ways to explore the island. One of the most popular and practical transport options is renting a scooter, giving you the freedom to discover Lombok independently.
Below are some important tips and things to consider when using a rental scooter in Lombok.
Advantages of Renting a Scooter

Flexibility and independence: With a rental scooter, you’re independent from fixed schedules and can explore the island at your own pace. This allows for spontaneous detours to lesser-known but equally beautiful places.

Affordable: Rental scooters are among the cheapest ways to get around Lombok. Rental costs are generally affordable, and fuel is relatively inexpensive as well.

Easy access: There are many scooter rental providers across the island, especially in tourist areas such as Senggigi and Kuta. Renting a scooter is straightforward and often possible directly through hotels or guesthouses.
Important Tips for Riding a Scooter in Lombok

Driving licence: Make sure you have an international driving permit valid in Indonesia, as police checks occasionally take place.

Wear a helmet: Always wear a helmet. Not only is it legally required, but it’s also essential for your safety.

Insurance: Check whether the rental scooter includes insurance coverage. In the event of an accident or theft, insurance can save you significant trouble and costs. However, comprehensive insurance is often difficult to obtain.

Road conditions: Road quality in Lombok varies considerably. Drive carefully, especially on remote routes, and be prepared for potholes or unpaved roads.

Kuta and the southern beaches: Kuta is one of the best starting points for scooter trips. From here, you can explore beautiful beaches in southern Lombok, such as Tanjung Aan and Mawun Beach.

Senggigi: The coastal road around Senggigi offers breathtaking views and leads to numerous small hidden beaches and bays.
A rental scooter is an excellent choice for exploring Lombok. It offers flexibility, is affordable and allows you to discover the island’s beauty independently. With the right preparation and a bit of caution, riding a scooter in Lombok can become an unforgettable experience.
Alternative Transport Options
Since Lombok is still less developed for tourism, alternative transport options are somewhat limited. However, some accommodations offer bicycle rentals, organise group excursions, or can arrange private drivers. Prices vary and I’m unfortunately unable to provide exact estimates.
Getting to Lombok – How to Reach the Island
Getting to Lombok can be done in several ways, depending on your starting point and travel preferences.
By Plane – International or Domestic Flights, e.g. from Bali
The fastest and most convenient way to reach Lombok is by plane. The Lombok International Airport (IATA: LOP) is located near the town of Praya in the centre of the island.
International flights: There are several direct international connections to Lombok, mainly from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Perth. These routes are operated by various airlines.
Domestic flights: Regular domestic flights to Lombok are available from most major Indonesian cities, especially Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali (Denpasar) and Makassar. The flight time from Bali is only around 30 minutes.
If you’re travelling from Bali or the Gili Islands, taking the ferry is often the more practical option.
Ferry from Bali or the Gili Islands
Another popular way to reach Lombok is by ferry. This option is particularly suitable if you’re already staying in Bali or on one of the nearby islands.
- Bali to Lombok:There are several ferry connections between Bali and Lombok. Public ferries operate from Padang Bai Harbour in Bali to Lembar Harbour in Lombok. The crossing takes approximately 4–5 hours. Alternatively, many companies offer fast boats, reducing travel time to around 2–3 hours. An online timetable and booking options can be found here*.
- Gili Islands to Lombok: If you’re travelling from the Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno or Gili Air), there are regular boat connections to Lombok. Depending on the island and boat type, the journey takes approximately 15–30 minutes. An online timetable and booking options can be found here*.
Recommended Travel Duration for Lombok’s Beaches & Attractions
Lombok is a fairly large island with plenty to offer. The two main tourist regions are Kuta and Senggigi, and you could easily spend one week in each area without getting bored.
If you plan one week per region, you’ll have enough time to enjoy the beaches and attractions mentioned above at a relaxed pace. If you prefer travelling a little faster, 10 days may also be sufficient.
Beyond the beaches, Lombok also offers hikes to volcanic craters and beautiful waterfalls worth visiting. If you intend to include these activities, however, two weeks can quickly feel rather short.
If you only plan to visit one part of the island, for example either the Senggigi region or Kuta, one week is generally enough.
Ultimately, the ideal travel duration depends on what you would like to experience and explore. Personally, I would recommend between one and three weeks for Lombok.
Best Time to Visit Lombok’s Beaches
Best Time to Visit Lombok: April to October
Dry season:
From April to October, Lombok experiences its dry season. During this period, there is little to no rainfall, while temperatures remain pleasantly warm. This is considered the ideal time for a beach holiday, water sports such as diving and snorkelling, as well as outdoor activities including hiking and exploring nature.

Lombok’s beaches may not always offer ideal swimming conditions. The sea can be rough, with strong currents, rocky sections or reefs in certain areas. However, the untouched nature and breathtaking landscapes surrounding these beaches are truly spectacular and difficult to surpass in terms of beauty.
Lombok and its beaches belong to the most impressive destinations I have ever visited. With its friendly locals and stunning natural scenery, the island is undoubtedly a dream destination and well worth a visit.
One thing that can occasionally become slightly exhausting is the number of beach vendors. Interestingly, some beaches remain almost empty despite the presence of sellers. Yet at the same time, it’s difficult to blame them. Like many others, they are simply hoping to benefit from the growing tourism industry and create opportunities for themselves and their families.
Despite this, Lombok has managed to preserve much of its authentic charm and relaxed atmosphere, making the island feel far less commercialised than many other destinations in Southeast Asia.
