Cham’s House Koh Kood in Video

Location of Cham’s House Koh Kood

The location is often one of the most important factors when deciding whether a hotel is the right choice for your holiday or not. Should the accommodation be directly at the beach, centrally located, or rather peaceful and remote? Are there restaurants nearby and can attractions easily be reached?

In the south of Koh Kood, the Cham’s House* enjoys a truly beautiful location directly at the natural Takhian Beach, which belongs among the island’s most beautiful beaches. The resort is nicely integrated into a tropical garden landscape and serves as an excellent base for exploring Koh Kood.

Although there are hotels located slightly more centrally on the island, you can still reach nearly all beaches and attractions within approximately 30 minutes by scooter from Cham’s House. Scooter rentals usually cost around 300 Baht per day.

Apart from Cham’s House, there is only one additional hotel located directly at Takhian Beach called Pa Hin Sai. In the immediate surroundings, there are no additional restaurants or infrastructure available, although these can be reached within roughly 3 to 5 minutes by scooter.

Walking takes approximately 10 minutes, but it is important to know that the road is unlit and becomes very dark at night. Fortunately, flashlights are provided inside the rooms, which are definitely useful if you plan to walk outside after sunset.

From Koh Kood’s main pier, the resort can be reached within approximately 20 to 30 minutes by pick-up taxi.

Location Rating: ★★★

Even though Cham’s House is slightly remote and offers only limited nearby dining options, I personally loved the location. The peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind, while other beaches and restaurants still remain easily accessible by scooter.

Beach at Cham’s House

Cham’s House Resort* is located directly at the picturesque Takhian Beach. The hotel itself features a small private beach section, which can become rather rocky and stony during low tide.

Fortunately, this is not really a problem, since you can simply walk a little further along the untouched natural beach beside the resort.

Apart from Cham’s House and the neighbouring Pa Hin Sai Resort, the entire Takhian Beach remains completely undeveloped and surrounded by palm trees, tropical vegetation, and lush greenery.

The beach itself is relatively long, although rather narrow, and offers soft white sand together with crystal-clear water. Since the beach slopes more steeply into the ocean compared to some other beaches on Koh Kood, Takhian Beach is especially suitable for swimming.

The true highlight of this almost deserted beach is undoubtedly its peaceful tropical atmosphere and the incredibly green natural surroundings.

You can find more detailed information about Takhian Beach in our Koh Kood travel guide.

Beach Rating: ★★

Takhian Beach is a beautiful natural beach in a fantastic location. However, a small downside is that parts of the beach outside the resort area can occasionally be slightly polluted by washed-up plastic and ocean debris.

Rooms & Facilities at Cham’s House

Just as important as the location of a resort are the rooms and their facilities. After all, you will spend a significant part of your holiday here — which makes it even more important that you feel comfortable, relaxed, and at home during your stay.

The well-maintained Cham’s House resort features around 53 rooms, ranging from standard hotel rooms to beachfront villas with private pools.

Whether you are travelling on a smaller budget or searching for a luxurious tropical escape, the resort offers accommodation categories for nearly every type of traveller.

STANDARD ROOMS (Deluxe Ocean View & Grand Deluxe Whirlpool)

Deluxe Ocean View

The stylishly designed standard rooms, called Deluxe Ocean View, are located inside the three-storey main building next to the reception, breakfast restaurant, and the large main swimming pool. The spacious rooms measure approximately 48 square metres and all feature a small balcony offering beautiful views across Takhian Beach and the surrounding bay — especially from the upper floors.

The rooms include a modern bathroom, desk, TV, WiFi, iPod docking station, complimentary minibar, kettle for coffee and tea, beach towels, bathrobes, and slippers. Additional amenities include an umbrella, flashlight, and a safe for valuables.

Grand Deluxe Whirlpool

For a small additional charge, guests can upgrade to the Grand Deluxe Whirlpool rooms, which additionally feature an outdoor jacuzzi. However, filling the jacuzzi unfortunately takes a very long time.

BUNGALOWS & VILLEN (Tropical Villa / Tropical Pool Villa & Beachfront Pool Villa)

If your travel budget allows it, I can definitely recommend staying in one of the Tropical Villas. These are located in beautiful tropical surroundings and some even include a private pool and jacuzzi.

Tropical Villa

The charming bungalows measure approximately 70 square metres, are beautifully designed, and feature comfortable king-size beds. Compared to the standard rooms, the villas offer almost identical facilities but additionally include a separate bathtub.

Tropical Pool Villa

Compared to the standard Tropical Villas, the Tropical Pool Villas additionally feature a private swimming pool with jacuzzi function. The villas are also detached, providing guests with noticeably more privacy. Ending the day after exploring Koh Kood while relaxing in your own private pool with a drink in hand — sounds pretty fantastic, doesn’t it?

Beach Front Villa

The Beach Front Villas are almost identical to the Tropical Pool Villas, but are located directly in the first row facing the ocean. As a result, they offer spectacular sea views. However, these villas also provide slightly less privacy, since they are positioned directly beside the beach and close to the main restaurant area.

Overall Room Rating: ★★★

Especially the Tropical Pool Villas with private pools are a true highlight of the resort. However, even the standard rooms provide a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Personally, I would probably recommend the Beach Front Villas slightly less, mainly because of the significantly higher price and reduced privacy.

In my opinion, the extra charge for the Grand Deluxe Whirlpool rooms is also not necessarily worth it, since the jacuzzi takes extremely long to fill and the jacuzzi function itself is rather average.

Condition & Cleanliness of the Rooms and Resort

Cleanliness

The rooms were cleaned daily and were always in a very clean condition during my stay. Upon request, towels and beach towels were replaced every day as well. The private pool at the Tropical Pool Villa was also cleaned daily and remained in excellent condition throughout the stay. The same applies to the bathroom and toilet areas, which were consistently well maintained and hygienic.

Condition

If you are travelling to Asia for the very first time, you may occasionally notice that hotel maintenance standards can differ somewhat compared to Europe. In many destinations across Southeast Asia, hotels are sometimes built quickly and later maintained with varying levels of consistency. Overall, Cham’s House was in good condition during my stay.

However, smaller issues occasionally appeared here and there, such as broken light bulbs or wooden planks at the villa terraces that could have used replacement. The villa verandas are built from wood, which naturally weathers over time in the tropical climate.

On the positive side, the hotel staff always took complaints and maintenance issues seriously and usually fixed problems quickly.

Overall Rating for Condition & Cleanliness: ★★

The cleanliness throughout the resort was excellent. Although there were a few smaller maintenance issues here and there, none of them were truly serious or disturbing — fairly typical for tropical island resorts in Southeast Asia.

Pool Area at Cham’s House

Cham’s House features a large infinity pool area, which remains open until 10:00 PM in the evening. The pool is located on a small hill and offers fantastic panoramic views across Takhian Beach and the surrounding tropical bay. The entire pool landscape is beautifully designed and was in very good condition during our stay. Additionally, the swimming pool also includes a jacuzzi section.

The atmosphere around the pool area is extremely peaceful and, most of the time, almost completely empty — making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Overall Pool Rating: ★★★★★

Food & Drinks at Cham’s House

Cham’s House features two different restaurants. One restaurant is used for the breakfast buffet, while the second serves lunch and dinner. Additionally, guests can also dine at the neighbouring Pa Hin Sai Resort, where prices are noticeably cheaper. Further restaurants and food options can be found approximately 500 metres away from the resort.

Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast buffet is perfectly fine for a shorter stay of a few days. However, if you stay at Cham’s House for two weeks, you will probably become familiar with the relatively limited buffet selection fairly quickly. There is only one type of toast bread together with a few bread rolls — and that is already most of the bread selection available. Jam, honey, and butter are available in several variations though.

The muffins unfortunately felt rather dry and honestly resembled pieces of styrofoam more than fresh pastries. Fresh pancakes and different egg variations such as omelettes, fried eggs, and boiled eggs are prepared daily and tasted very good. Additionally, there is a small selection of fruits and cereals.

Several Asian breakfast dishes are also available, although the selection remains fairly small overall. It is also worth mentioning that no pork products are served due to the religious background of the owners. Instead, chicken sausages and beef bacon are offered as substitutes, although the taste difference is definitely noticeable.

Unfortunately, there is only a single coffee machine available in the breakfast restaurant, which regularly leads to waiting times — not exactly ideal in the morning.

Every day, guests additionally receive a small selection of juices, water, and tea. Even though the staff was always extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet itself still has room for improvement.

Lunch & Dinner

Compared to the breakfast buffet, the lunch and dinner menu offers a much larger selection of both European and Asian dishes. The food served was very tasty and the portion sizes were absolutely reasonable. The smoothies were also excellent.

The atmosphere at the Bombyx Beach Bar, located directly beside the beach, was very inviting and enjoyable.

Between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, guests can enjoy complimentary soft drinks, cocktails, and beer at the small beach bar — which I personally found to be a very cool gesture.

However, food and drinks inside the resort are significantly more expensive compared to nearby places such as the neighbouring Pa Hin Sai Resort. If you are looking for cheaper dining options, visiting restaurants outside the resort is definitely worthwhile.

Minibar in the Rooms

The rooms include a complimentary minibar. Alongside tea and coffee, guests receive two soft drinks and a few snacks, which are refilled daily free of charge. Additionally, two small bottles of drinking water are delivered to the room every evening.

Overall Food & Drink Rating: ★★★★★

The relatively small breakfast buffet becomes repetitive after only a few days and felt slightly disappointing to me. On the other hand, lunch, dinner, smoothies, and the atmosphere at the Bombyx Beach Bar were absolutely fantastic — although admittedly somewhat expensive.

Friendliness of the Staff & Service

You can stay at the most beautiful luxury hotel in the world — but without good service, you will never truly feel comfortable. Very often, it is the friendly and welcoming staff that ultimately makes the real difference during a holiday.

And this warm and welcoming atmosphere is exactly what the staff at Cham’s House consistently managed to create throughout our stay. From the reception staff and waiters to the gardeners and housekeeping team — everyone contributed to making our stay feel special.

The staff at the Bombyx Beach Bar greeted us by name, while the gardener brought us freshly picked flowers every single day and even decorated the private pool with colourful tropical blossoms.

These small details and personal touches made the overall experience feel especially memorable and heartfelt.

Overall Staff Rating: ★★★★★

Overall, my stay at Cham’s House was fantastic.
The beautiful location, paradise-like beach, and especially the stunning pool villas truly made this resort feel special. From the gardeners to the reception staff, everyone was exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout the stay.

The only noticeable downsides were the breakfast buffet and the inconsistent shower temperature and water pressure.

Recent Reviews & Feedback from a Friend

Unfortunately, it seems that the Covid pandemic significantly affected the resort.
Recent reviews of Cham’s House have declined noticeably, and many guests mention that parts of the property are now in need of renovation and better maintenance.

A close friend of mine also stayed at Cham’s House at the end of 2023 and largely shared the impressions reflected in many of the recent online reviews.

Alternatives to Cham’s House

The Beach Natural Resort

Located directly at the beautiful Bang Bao Bay, The Beach Natural Resort was one of the places where I spent a truly unforgettable time on Koh Kood. Surrounded by tropical nature and an incredibly friendly staff, the resort immediately created a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The entire resort is beautifully integrated into lush tropical gardens, which at the time of my visit were personally maintained by the owner himself.

One of the absolute highlights for me was definitely the food. The dishes served at the resort restaurant were exceptionally delicious and honestly one of the main reasons why I would gladly return here anytime.

During my stay, the bungalows themselves were rather simple and modest in design, but they were fully sufficient, comfortable, and perfectly suited to the island’s relaxed atmosphere.

The resort also features its own pier extending into Bang Bao Bay. From there, you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views across the bay, while the pier additionally serves as a perfect spot for entering the crystal-clear ocean.

Since my original stay, the resort has been renovated and modernised. Because of these changes, I would currently avoid writing a highly detailed hotel review based purely on my earlier experience.

However, during my most recent visit to Koh Kood, I returned to The Beach Natural Resort again as a day visitor.

Overall, apart from the modernisation itself, the resort still felt very similar in atmosphere and quality — which is why I can still comfortably recommend it today.

Tolani Resort Koh Kood

The Tolani Resort Koh Kood is located slightly beside Klong Chao Beach and offers beautiful views across the bay and the surrounding tropical scenery. The green resort grounds feature several bungalows with comfortable and appealing interiors, while the staff was consistently very friendly and welcoming throughout my stay.

Compared to many other resorts around the main Klong Chao Beach area, Tolani belongs to the more affordable accommodation options and serves as a very good base for exploring Koh Kood.

One small downside of the resort’s location is the lack of direct access to Klong Chao Beach itself. Guests can either borrow a free kayak and paddle across to the beach within approximately 3 to 5 minutes, or rent a scooter and drive there instead.

Since the road takes a rather large detour around the bay, walking to Klong Chao Beach takes roughly 30 minutes on foot.

Overall, I personally liked the resort very much.

However, if your holiday is focused almost entirely on beach relaxation and swimming, there are probably better resort options available within a similar price range — especially due to the slightly less direct beach location.

Further Interesting Resorts

If I ever return to Koh Kood — which I honestly really hope I will — I would definitely take a closer look at the Ao Noi Resort again.

What impressed me most was undoubtedly the resort’s stunning location directly at Ao Noi Beach. The entire property itself also left a very memorable impression on me.

The bungalows and rooms, however, are kept rather simple and modest in design. The A-Na-Lay Resort* also made a very positive impression on me.

The whole resort felt beautifully designed and well integrated into nature, while the private sandy beach is absolutely fantastic. Another accommodation I would personally consider for a future stay is the Makok Resort*

Although the resort is not located directly at a beach, its position along the small tropical river is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The charming resort grounds appeared very well maintained and the staff was exceptionally friendly.
