Hi, I’m Andy
Traveler and photographer.
I don’t travel just to see places. I travel because I want to know if there’s more than just everyday life. More about me
Koh Phangan – Is There More Than Just the World-Famous Full Moon Party?
Koh Phangan and the Full Moon Party are about as inseparable as Bonnie and Clyde. Without a doubt, the island has achieved legendary status because of this world-famous beach party and has established itself as Thailand’s ultimate party destination.
But does the neighbouring island of Koh Samui and Koh Tao offer more than just wild and sometimes questionable parties? The answer is a clear YES!
Thailand’s Party Island – But Koh Phangan Has Much More to Offer
On Koh Phangan, you can not only party until sunrise, but also discover paradise-like beaches, beautiful bays, waterfalls, viewpoints, and several temples.
Even though the island is very popular among tourists and often quite busy, there are still peaceful places with untouched nature and relaxed atmospheres waiting to be explored.
Some of Koh Phangan’s most beautiful beaches can only be reached by boat taxi. In this travel guide, however, you will mainly find my favourite beaches and attractions that can easily be reached by land.
You can also find an overview of Koh Phangan’s most famous parties on a separate page.

What to Expect in This Koh Phangan Travel Guide:
1. Haad Rin Beach – One of Koh Phangan’s Main Beaches & Home of the Full Moon Party
Haad Rin Beach is one of the most popular holiday destinations on Koh Phangan. The beach is surrounded by a lively village offering restaurants, bars, hotels, massage salons, souvenir shops, and even a Seven-Eleven store.
In terms of infrastructure, you will find almost everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
From Koh Samui, Haad Rin Beach can easily be reached by ferry in approximately one hour. Boats from Koh Samui arrive directly at the pier near Haad Rin.
Scenic Limestone Hills & One of Koh Phangan’s Best Swimming Beaches
At Haad Rin Beach, you will encounter powdery white sand combined with crystal-clear turquoise water. Together with the lush green jungle-covered hills surrounding the bay, the scenery creates a truly beautiful tropical contrast.
The rocky formations around the beach help form a picturesque bay and give the entire area a very idyllic atmosphere.
Excellent Swimming Conditions at Haad Rin Beach
The warm sea water and vibrant colours invite visitors to spend hours swimming and relaxing in the ocean.
At many beaches on Koh Phangan, the water retreats significantly during low tide, sometimes making swimming difficult. Haad Rin Beach is affected by the tides as well, but even during low tide, swimming is still generally possible without any major issues.
Although Haad Rin is one of the island’s most visited beaches, it rarely feels overwhelmingly crowded — except during Full Moon Party periods.
One day before and after the Full Moon Party, however, the beach can feel extremely busy due to the massive number of visitors arriving for the event.
On normal days, the atmosphere at the beach is surprisingly relaxed and pleasant. Only the jetskis and longtail boats transporting visitors to nearby beaches and bars occasionally disturb the otherwise peaceful setting with their engine noise.
Most of the beachfront is lined with hotels, although you will still find several palm trees providing natural shade.
Bars, Parties & Nightlife Around Haad Rin Beach
Some of Koh Phangan’s most famous parties — if not Thailand’s most famous parties — take place around Haad Rin Beach.
The best-known event is, of course, the legendary Full Moon Party, which takes place once every month directly on the beach.
Several of the island’s most popular beach bars are also located here. The Kaktus Bar and the Drop In Bar are among the best-known venues and are definitely worth visiting even outside of the Full Moon Party dates.
Especially during sunset, the beach bars become very lively. Honestly, there are few better ways to end an exciting holiday day than sitting by the sea with a delicious drink in hand.
If you love swimming in the ocean but still want to enjoy nightlife and parties in the evenings, then Haad Rin Beach and its surroundings are probably the perfect choice for your stay on Koh Phangan.
Useful Facts About Haad Rin Beach
2. Rin Nai Beach – The Perfect Alternative to Haad Rin for Party Lovers
Rin Nai Beach is the perfect alternative to Haad Rin Beach. The famous Full Moon Party and the bars around Haad Rin can easily be reached within approximately 10 minutes on foot, while the atmosphere here is significantly quieter and more relaxed.
While loud bass and party music continue deep into the night around Haad Rin Beach, Rin Nai Beach offers peaceful evenings and much more tranquillity. This becomes a huge advantage if you actually want to get some proper sleep without constant party noise in the background.
Green Surroundings & Fantastic Views Towards Koh Samui
The location of Rin Nai Beach is very idyllic and surrounded by lush green jungle-covered hills. From the beach, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views across the bay all the way towards the neighbouring island of Koh Samui.
Especially during the evening hours, when Koh Samui’s lights begin to glow in the distance and the stars slowly appear above the sea, everyday life suddenly feels very far away.
Peaceful Atmosphere, but Not Ideal for Swimming
Compared to Haad Rin Beach, Rin Nai Beach is much quieter. Music is barely noticeable here, and visitor numbers remain relatively low.
The sand is somewhat coarser than at neighbouring beaches, while the sea itself shines in beautiful turquoise colours and remains crystal clear.
At first glance, the beach looks perfect for swimming. However, the water is extremely shallow and contains many rocks and stones, making swimming and relaxing in the sea rather difficult. Even the floating pier, designed to provide easier access to deeper water, does not fully solve the problem.
For travellers who want to enjoy Koh Phangan’s famous parties while still having a peaceful place to stay at night, Rin Nai Beach is definitely a very good option.
Useful Facts About Rin Nai Beach
3. Haad Yao Beach Koh Phangan – Crystal-Clear Water Inviting You to Relax
Haad Yao Beach welcomes visitors with crystal-clear turquoise water that almost irresistibly invites you to jump into the sea and relax.
The beach features soft white sand and calm, shallow water with a gentle slope, making it ideal for relaxing beach days.
However, there are only limited shaded areas available along the beach. While Haad Yao offers an impressive length, the beach becomes very narrow during high tide. Since most of the beachfront is lined with hotels and resorts, available space can become somewhat limited during peak hours, especially if you prefer relaxing beneath palm trees.
At first glance, visiting during low tide may sound like the smarter option. Unfortunately, there is a small downside to that as well.
While high tide offers excellent swimming conditions, the sea retreats significantly during low tide, making swimming and relaxing in the water much less enjoyable. During these periods, the water often becomes only knee-deep, and reaching deeper water requires navigating across rocks and stones.
A Tropical Beach in a Beautiful Setting
The turquoise sea, white sandy beach, and lush green surroundings create a truly picturesque tropical scenery at Haad Yao Beach. Even though the beach is quite popular among visitors, the atmosphere still feels relaxed enough to completely unwind and enjoy the surroundings.
Several restaurants and beach bars are located directly along the beach, serving good food, fresh drinks, and smoothies to satisfy both hunger and thirst.
Limited Parking – Important Arrival Information
The easiest way to access Haad Yao Beach is by turning off the main road towards the Haad Yao Bayview Resort & Spa.
Unfortunately, parking for rental scooters is rather limited. In my experience, however, this is pretty much the only practical public access point leading directly to the beach.
Useful Facts About Haad Yao Beach
4. Haad Khom Beach – A Tropical Beach Surrounded by Lush Nature
Haad Khom Beach impresses visitors with its beautiful location surrounded by lush green hills and untouched tropical scenery. Since the beach is nestled between jungle-covered hills, only a few hotels and restaurants have settled here.
As a result, Haad Khom Beach still feels relatively natural and relaxed, without the unattractive concrete buildings often found in more developed tourist areas.
Even though Haad Khom Beach is no longer a hidden gem and attracts a fair number of visitors, the peaceful natural atmosphere still makes it a fantastic place to unwind.
Coarser Sand, Plenty of Shade & Excellent Swimming Conditions
Compared to some other beaches on Koh Phangan, the sand at Haad Khom Beach is slightly coarser. Nevertheless, the beach offers very good swimming conditions.
One major advantage is the large number of palm trees and tropical vegetation providing natural shade along the beach.
Another benefit is that the beach slopes much more steeply into the sea than many other beaches on the island. After only a few steps, you can already swim comfortably in deeper water, while the calm sea creates perfect conditions for relaxing in the ocean.
In the crystal-clear water, you will also find several larger rocks and stones near the sides of the bay. However, they are hardly disturbing and instead add even more character to the already picturesque scenery.
Perfect for Relaxation & Peaceful Holidays
Haad Khom Beach is ideal for travellers looking for peace, relaxation, and a more natural atmosphere.
Under the shade of the palm trees, it is incredibly easy to slow down and simply enjoy island life.
But be careful — occasionally, coconuts surrender to gravity and fall from the palm trees! (Apparently, around 150 people worldwide are killed by falling coconuts every year.)
Useful Facts About Haad Khom Beach
5. Malibu Beach – Powder-White Sand in a Picturesque Bay
Malibu Beach offers visitors two major highlights: an incredibly white sandy beach and breathtaking views across the beautiful Chaloklum Bay.
The powdery white sand curves elegantly around a small sandbank before continuing into a longer beach section. Along this sandbank, you can walk through crystal-clear turquoise water, while the main beach itself offers calm and shallow sea conditions ideal for swimming and relaxing.
Several uniquely shaped trees grow directly along the sandbank, adding even more charm to the tropical scenery.
Relaxing Beach Atmosphere with Tropical Scenery
Malibu Beach features several palm trees and tropical plants providing pleasant natural shade, making it an excellent place for spending a relaxing beach day.
Food and drinks are available at the beach bar and restaurant belonging to the nearby hotel.
The beach is very popular among tourists and therefore not particularly quiet. Nevertheless, Malibu Beach still offers a truly unforgettable tropical atmosphere thanks to its crystal-clear water, vibrant colours, and stunning surroundings.
Fantastic Views Across Chaloklum Bay
From the main section of Malibu Beach, you can enjoy spectacular views across Chaloklum Bay with its traditional fishing huts, fishing boats, and lush jungle-covered hills.
The bright white sand surrounding the bay almost glows under the Thai sun, creating a truly impressive panorama.
During low tide, you can even walk directly along the beach from Malibu Beach all the way towards the beaches of Chaloklum Bay.
Useful Facts About Malibu Beach
6. Chalok Klum Beach – A Quiet Beach in a Stunning Tropical Bay
Chalok Klum Beach is one of the two beautiful beaches located within the picturesque Chaloklum Bay.
At first glance, the beach seems to offer everything needed for a tropical paradise: crystal-clear water in stunning shades of turquoise, powdery white sand, and a peaceful atmosphere with surprisingly few visitors.
The surrounding jungle-covered hills, traditional fishing village, and beautiful bay scenery create an absolutely breathtaking panorama that immediately invites you to slow down and relax.
So why is Chalok Klum Beach still relatively quiet compared to many other beaches on Koh Phangan?
Paradise-Like Scenery with One Important Drawback
With its stunning scenery and tropical setting, Chalok Klum Beach certainly has the potential to rank among Koh Phangan’s best beaches — at least at first glance. However, the beach comes with one major disadvantage: the sea here is extremely shallow.
During low tide, the water often reaches only knee height, making proper swimming nearly impossible. Even during higher tides, the sea remains relatively shallow compared to other beaches on the island.
For this reason, Chalok Klum Beach is less attractive for travellers primarily searching for perfect swimming conditions. Nevertheless, the beach is still well worth visiting, especially if you enjoy peaceful beach walks and simply want to admire the incredible scenery.
From Chalok Klum Beach, you also have a fantastic view towards Malibu Beach and the surrounding bay.
Useful Facts About Chalok Klum Beach
7. Chalok Lam Beach – The Little Brother of Chalok Klum Beach
Also located within the beautiful Chaloklum Bay, Chalok Lam Beach can almost be described as the smaller brother of Chalok Klum Beach. Under the bright Thai sun, the powdery white sand almost glows, making the beach stand out beautifully even from a distance.
Behind the beach, a small river flows through the village and enters the sea at the eastern end of the beach. There, you will find a small sand and rockbank offering fantastic views across Chaloklum Bay and towards Malibu Beach.
The bright white sand, colourful turquoise sea, and slowly passing fishing boats create a truly stunning tropical scenery and the perfect setting for holiday photos.
Narrow Beach with Excellent Swimming Conditions During High Tide
During high tide, Chalok Lam Beach becomes relatively narrow and offers only limited space for sunbathing. However, this is also when the beach provides its best swimming conditions, as the sea becomes deep enough for enjoyable swimming and relaxing in the water.
At low tide, the situation changes significantly. The beach becomes much wider, revealing large stretches of powdery white sand, while the turquoise sea retreats far into the distance.
As a result, swimming and relaxing in the water become much more limited during these periods. Although several palm trees and tropical plants grow along the beach, shaded areas are somewhat limited. Two smaller beach bars and restaurants provide drinks, snacks, and delicious smoothies directly at the beach.
Useful Facts About Chalok Lam Beach
8. Haad Than Sadet Beach – Small, but Definitely Worth Visiting
Haad Than Sadet Beach is located in a small yet very beautiful tropical bay surrounded by palm trees, lush vegetation, and dense greenery. Thanks to the natural surroundings, the beach offers several shaded areas that are perfect for relaxing and escaping the strong Thai sun.
Around the beach, you will find a small resort with bungalow-style accommodation as well as a cosy restaurant and bar where you can enjoy snacks, drinks, or fresh smoothies.
To access Haad Than Sadet Beach, the nearby resort charges an entrance fee of 100 Baht. In return, sufficient parking spaces for rental scooters are available.
Good Swimming Conditions, but Very Hot Pebbles
Most beaches on Koh Phangan are famous for their fine white sand. Haad Than Sadet Beach, however, is quite different.
Instead of soft sand, you will mainly encounter a coarser pebble beach. Under the intense tropical sun, these small stones can become extremely hot and uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. So yes — flip-flops are definitely highly recommended here.
Unlike many other beaches on the island, Haad Than Sadet Beach slopes relatively steeply into the sea, making it especially attractive for stronger swimmers.
The turquoise water remains crystal clear, although the sea is often less calm and shallow compared to beaches like Haad Yao or Malibu Beach. Depending on weather conditions, the water can occasionally become slightly rougher and more wave-exposed.
Useful Facts About Haad Than Sadet Beach
9. Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach – Perfect for Relaxation & Peaceful Beach Days
Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach impresses visitors with its stunning location between two lush green hills and its beautiful tropical scenery. Even though many hotels, restaurants, and accommodations have settled around the bay, the beach still maintains a surprisingly peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
Most visitors spend their days enjoying snacks at the beachfront restaurants, sipping refreshing drinks, and relaxing on the powdery white sand while listening to the sound of the waves.
Long White Beach with Powdery Soft Sand
Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach stretches across a considerable length and offers many shaded spots beneath palm trees and tropical vegetation. The combination of powdery white sand, turquoise water, and the lush green surroundings creates a truly impressive tropical setting.
Entering the sea here feels almost perfect. After only a few steps, you can comfortably swim and relax in the warm and calm water. In my opinion, Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach is one of the best beaches on Koh Phangan for travellers seeking peace, relaxation, and laid-back tropical vibes.
Parking spaces for rental scooters are available in sufficient numbers along the beach.
Useful Facts About Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach
10. Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach – A Beach with Stunning Panoramic Views
Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach completely impressed me with its breathtaking panoramic views across Thong Nai Bay. From the beach, you can admire the surrounding jungle-covered hills while also enjoying beautiful views towards the neighbouring Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach.
Several mid-range resorts and hotels are located directly along the beach, while the nearby small village offers additional restaurants, accommodation options, and parking spaces for rental scooters.
Coarser Sand & Perfect Conditions for Bodyboarding
Compared to its neighbouring beach, Thong Nai Pan Yai, there are several noticeable differences. The sand at Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach is considerably coarser, although it still remains beautifully white.
The swimming experience also differs quite a bit between the two beaches. While Thong Nai Pan Yai features calm and shallow water, Thong Nai Pan Noi often offers better conditions for small waves, bodyboarding, and playful swimming in the surf.
If you enjoy a bit more movement in the water, you will definitely have fun here.
Despite its beauty, Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach still belongs to the quieter beaches on Koh Phangan and is perfect for spending a few relaxing hours away from the larger tourist crowds.
Useful Facts About Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach
11. Mae Haad Beach – Tropical Paradise with a Stunning Sandbank
Mae Haad Beach is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful beaches on Koh Phangan. The fine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water immediately invite you to swim, relax, and enjoy the tropical atmosphere. The beach offers excellent swimming conditions with calm water and a gently sloping shoreline, making it ideal for spending long relaxing days by the sea.
The Famous Sandbank to Koh Ma
The absolute highlight of Mae Haad Beach is the beautiful sandbank connecting the beach with the small island of Koh Ma. During low tide, you can walk directly across the sandbank towards the island, creating one of the most unique and picturesque spots on Koh Phangan.
Relaxed Atmosphere Despite Its Popularity
Even though Mae Haad Beach belongs to the island’s most beautiful beaches, it surprisingly never feels overwhelmingly crowded.
Most visitors gather near the famous sandbank, while the southern section of the beach remains much quieter. If you walk a little further along the shoreline, you can often find peaceful spots with only a few other beachgoers nearby.
Two restaurants located directly at the beach provide food, drinks, and refreshments throughout the day. Mae Haad Beach is also especially beautiful during sunset, when the colourful evening sky transforms the entire bay into a truly magical tropical scenery.
Useful Facts About Mae Haad Beach
12. Secret Beach – No Longer Secret & Slightly Overrated
Despite its name, Secret Beach is anything but secret nowadays.
The small bay has become extremely popular across travel blogs and social media platforms, where it is often heavily hyped as one of Koh Phangan’s hidden paradise beaches. And yes — the beach is certainly beautiful. However, the problem is that far too many visitors gather here at the same time, making the rather small beach feel overcrowded very quickly.
You will notice the same issue when trying to find parking for your rental scooter, as available spaces are often limited and difficult to find. For this reason, I would highly recommend visiting Secret Beach early in the morning to avoid the largest crowds.
There Are Better Swimming Beaches on Koh Phangan
Besides the high visitor numbers, Secret Beach also comes with another disadvantage. During low tide, the sea retreats significantly, while rocks and stones hidden in the water make swimming less enjoyable in some areas.
Overall, I personally believe there are several more beautiful and better swimming beaches on Koh Phangan. To be honest, I never fully understood why Secret Beach became such a huge social media hotspot.
But maybe you disagree? If so, feel free to share your own opinion and experiences in the comments below.

13. Koh Phangan – Thailand’s Famous Party Island
On Koh Phangan, you can fully embrace the island’s legendary party atmosphere. There is almost always some kind of themed party happening somewhere on the island, often on a daily basis.
Koh Phangan earned its worldwide reputation as Thailand’s ultimate party island mainly because of the famous Full Moon Party, which attracts thousands of visitors from around the globe every single month.
However, the island offers far more than just one single event.
The Most Famous Parties on Koh Phangan
- Waterfall Party
- Full Moon Party am Haad Rin Beach
- Half Moon Party
- Jungle Party
- Poo Party im Coral Beach Resort

Hotel Recommendations for Koh Phangan
During both of my visits to Koh Phangan, I stayed at Rin Nai Beach.
While the beach itself is not ideal for swimming due to its very shallow water and rocky seabed, Rin Nai Beach offers fantastic views towards Koh Samui.
What I personally appreciated most was the location. Haad Rin Beach, its lively village with bars, restaurants, and the famous Full Moon Party can all be reached within around 10 minutes on foot, meaning you stay very close to the action without having to live directly inside the party chaos.
Around Haad Rin Beach itself, things can become extremely loud and hectic until the early morning hours. That is exactly why Rin Nai Beach is such a great option if you want to enjoy Koh Phangan’s nightlife and parties, while still being able to sleep in a quieter and more peaceful environment afterwards.
These are the two hotels I personally stayed at and can honestly recommend:
Both resorts offer several room categories ranging from mid-range to more upscale accommodation. In terms of price, facilities, and overall quality, the two hotels are quite similar. In both resorts, the staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The hotels also feature their own swimming pools, which is definitely a nice advantage considering that Rin Nai Beach itself is less suitable for swimming.
Tip: Right at the access road on the small hill, you will find a very good and affordable restaurant called “Moon Paradise”. They serve delicious and reasonably priced food, while also offering party tickets and reliable scooter rentals — which can honestly be quite valuable on Koh Phangan.
Getting Around Koh Phangan

Rental Scooters
The best, cheapest, and most flexible way to explore Koh Phangan is definitely by rental scooter.
The roads leading to Koh Phangan’s beaches and attractions are generally well developed and easy to drive. However, especially the southern part of the island can be very hilly at times. You will quickly notice that your scooter occasionally has to work quite hard on some of the steep uphill roads — and your brakes probably will too on the way back down.
A fair rental price is usually around 150 to 200 Baht per day (approximately EUR 5 to 6), depending on the rental duration and season.
Pickup Taxis
Koh Phangan also has many so-called pickup taxis operating across the island.
As commonly seen throughout Thailand, these are pickup trucks converted into shared taxis with seating areas in the back. There are no official bus stops. Instead, you simply tell the driver when you want to get off.
At beaches, party locations, and most tourist hotspots, you will find these shared taxis almost everywhere. So there is usually no need to worry about finding transportation.
The price for a ride is generally around 150 to 200 Baht (approximately EUR 5 to 6). Most routes cost roughly the same, although with good negotiation skills you may occasionally be able to lower the price slightly.
Especially for party nights, these taxis are extremely practical and popular. You can fully enjoy the nightlife without worrying about driving a scooter after drinking alcohol.
For many of the larger parties on Koh Phangan, transportation to the event is already included in the ticket price. (Usually only the trip to the party, not the return journey.)
How to Get to Koh Phangan

From Bangkok to Koh Phangan
Most international travellers arrive in Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK) in Bangkok.
From Bangkok, there are several ways to reach Koh Phangan:
Flight to Koh Samui & Ferry
One of the fastest and most comfortable options is taking a direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui (USM). Airlines such as Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways operate daily flights to Koh Samui.
From Koh Samui Airport, you can continue by ferry to Koh Phangan. Ferry companies such as Seatran Discovery, Lomprayah, and Haad Rin Queen offer regular connections between the islands.
The ferry crossing usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
Tickets can also be booked online in advance.*
Flight to Surat Thani & Ferry
A more budget-friendly option is flying from Bangkok to Surat Thani (URT). Airlines such as AirAsia and Nok Air regularly operate this route. From Surat Thani Airport, you first need to take a bus or minivan to Donsak Pier, which takes approximately 1.5 hours.
From there, ferries continue towards Koh Phangan. The entire journey usually takes around 2.5 to 3 hours in total.
Popular ferry providers include Raja Ferry and Lomprayah.
Tickets can also be booked online in advance.*
From Koh Samui to Koh Phangan
Several ferries operate daily between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. The main ferry companies are Seatran Discovery, Lomprayah, and Haad Rin Queen. The crossing takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
Tickets can either be purchased directly at the pier or booked online in advance.*
Koh Tao nach Koh Phangan
Besides Koh Samui, Koh Tao is another neighbouring island of Koh Phangan. These three islands are often combined into a classic island-hopping route by travellers visiting southern Thailand. Ferries also operate regularly between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. The crossing usually takes around 1.5 hours.
The main ferry operators are Lomprayah and Songserm.
Tickets can either be purchased directly at the pier or booked online in advance.*
Important Note | Tip
Especially around the Full Moon Party, ferries are often fully booked several days in advance. If you plan to travel to Koh Phangan during the Full Moon Party period, I strongly recommend booking your ferry tickets as early as possible.
You can find the official Full Moon Party dates online before planning your trip.
Recommended Length of Stay & Best Time to Visit Koh Phangan’s Beaches & Attractions

The ideal time to visit Koh Phangan is between December and March. During this period, the island experiences the least amount of rainfall, while the beaches and the sea are at their most beautiful and inviting.
Especially if you plan to enjoy Koh Phangan’s famous parties, I would highly recommend travelling during these months. This is when the island has the best atmosphere, the largest crowds, and the most vibrant nightlife.
Outside of the main travel season between December and March, some parties can occasionally feel much quieter, simply because significantly fewer travellers are staying on the island. And honestly — who wants to attend a party that feels half empty?
Recommended Length of Stay
Many visitors only travel to Koh Phangan for one day or one night in order to attend the famous Full Moon Party or Half Moon Party. Thanks to the excellent ferry connections from Koh Samui, this is very easy to do.
However, if you actually want to experience more of the island than just its nightlife, I would definitely recommend staying for at least one week.
Within a week, you will have enough time to explore the island’s most beautiful beaches, visit several viewpoints and attractions, and still enjoy a few parties along the way.
Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with extending your stay to two or even three weeks — especially if you enjoy relaxed island life, tropical beaches, and slower travel.
Conclusion About Koh Phangan’s Beaches & Attractions

Koh Phangan is world-famous for its legendary Full Moon Parties. However, the island offers far more than just wild party nights and nightlife.
Besides the famous events, Koh Phangan is also home to many peaceful and beautiful places where you can relax, slow down, and recharge your energy far away from everyday life. The island is just as diverse as the travellers visiting it.
Even though I personally tend to prefer destinations that are less touristy, I still had an unforgettable and fantastic time during both of my visits to Koh Phangan. For that reason, I can definitely recommend the island in the Gulf of Thailand.
And honestly — I can absolutely imagine returning for a third visit someday.
If you are searching for the perfect combination of parties, tropical beaches, and relaxation, Koh Phangan is definitely an excellent choice.
